Custom Designed Testing Systems
Calder Testers designs and manufactures custom designed testing systems to meet customers testing requirements. We have designed systems for unique valve testing applications, pipe testing systems, fiberglass vessel testing, destructive testing systems, and a host of related testing systems unique to each application.
Most custom designed systems require semi –automated or fully automated computer control systems to apply the testing parameters necessary to perform the unique test specifications of the parts or valves being tested. Custom designed systems are normally designed when complex testing steps are required and documentation is critical. When Computer systems either DAAS or DACS are implemented it removes operator error or judgment decisions regarding the test procedure or pass/fail criteria.
Our custom designed systems normally compliment existing customers automated or semi-automated systems within the customers’ facilities. When valves and related products are manufactured with fully automated computer controlled machines it is normally compatible to have fully automated computer controlled testing equipment to compliment the manufacturing process.
CTI Air Driven Pumps
Calder Testers has a line of air driven liquid pumps made to our specifications from 500 to 45,000 psi. The series 1 pump has a 5” air drive and the series 2 has a 6” air drive. With these two series pumps we are capable of a wide pressure range and outlet volume to meet most test applications.
High Pressure Check Valves
Calder Testers had designed high pressure check valves for liquid service up to 30,000 psi. The check valves have ½”, ¾” and 1” bores for quick fill inlets and high pressure inlet fitting for injection of the high pressure test medium. The valves are designed to fill, vent and test with one initial connection.
Model 1700 Autofrettage Pump
Calder Testers, Inc. has designed and manufactured a line of hydraulically operated Super Pressure Pumps and related fittings for pressures up to 180,000 psi. The pump systems are manufactured as single or double ended systems and come with an integrated control console.
The systems can be manually operated, semi-automated or fully automated with computer interface. The control console can be designed for manual operation where the test operator controls the high pressure pump until it gets to the required pressure. When data storage is required we provide our field proven Data Acquisition and Analysis System (DAAS). If more control is required we can provide our Data Acquisition and Control System (DACS) to monitor the test, control the pump cycles, determine the ramp rate and stop at the required pressure as well as develop a record of the test, hard copy and store the information.
Our Standard Model 1700 High Pressure Pump discharges .788 cubic inches per stroke and the double ended pump systems have 1.58 cubic inches per cycle. These outputs can be increased to 1 cubic inch for single acting and 2 cubic inches for double acting by adjustments or we can build a special pump for larger outputs if required.
Autofrettage Service and 3rd Party Testing
Calder Testers, Inc. can provide destructive and non destructive testing which is capable of handling pressures to 180,000 psi for valves, fittings, tubing or other tests custom designed to meet customer’s exact specifications.
Our nondestructive and destructive testing capabilities include, Autofrettage of tubing, fittings and vessels, ruptured exhaust tails, proof tested subsea valves, ruptured fiberglass tanks, tested valves to failure as well as pressure testing of valves to ANSI standards.
Data Acquisition and Analysis Software (DAAS)
Our computer based software can be configured to meet the test requirements for Safety Relief Valves, Control Valves, Standard configuration valves, pressure testing of any kind. The stand alone software monitors, saves, displays and views pressure testing which captures the required data digitally, in print form and visually for a permanent record.
Safety Test Cells
Calder Testers had designed and manufactured Safety Test Cells for ourselves as well as customers throughout the world. The Safety Cells are designed to absorb energy and depressurize a failure within the Safety Test Cell. The Safety Cells are designed to contain items that fail during testing or shrapnel created by a rupture. These proven designs have been use by Calder Testers or their personnel for over 40 years.
Safety Audits
We provide 3rd party safety audits of customers facilities to identify problem areas in their existing or proposed testing facilities and make recommendations as to the solution. Recommendations may mean new equipment, modification to existing equipment or installation of protective Safety Test Cells to protect the operators and others working in close proximity to the testing facility.
The Oil and Gas industries as well as the Refining and Petrochemical plants have been subjected to continuous and strenuous rules and regulations from Governments, Customers, National Standards and End Users. This demand for quality and system performance requires test equipment and test systems to meet or exceed these requirements. Safety has become paramount in the development and use of test systems and equipment. Personnel can no longer be subjected to situations that could cause injury or loss of life.
Failure of production valves, fittings, pipe, tubing, pumps and related equipment used in the daily process of Oil and Gas related products are no longer going unnoticed. When failures occur and the items in question have not been tested or have been tested on less than adequate equipment questions arise as to the safety of the systems and component parts.
